Victoria Park enters new era

A new chapter in Victoria Park’s rich history begins as the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) starts initial works for the new Brisbane Stadium, from Monday 1 June.

The initial works will focus on preparing the site for construction, including ongoing investigations, early enabling works, and establishing construction areas.

After hosting the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics at the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Brisbane Stadium will become the city’s main stadium for sports and entertainment, with 63,000 seats and a concert capacity of 70,000.

The new stadium will be a fitting home ground for AFL Premiers the Brisbane Lions, and cricket’s Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, Queensland Bulls at interstate level, as well as an outstanding international cricket venue for Test, One Day and T20 matches.

GIICA is delivering 17 new and upgraded venues across the state in the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government.
